Petition to Protect Yoga in Encinitas Schools

Dear Dr. Baird,

There has been a lot of controversy lately regarding the Yoga Program in Encinitas schools. A significantly large group of parents have voiced concern and frustration with the program and threatened a lawsuit unless it is cut because they believe it is religious indoctrination. This could not be farther from the truth. Hatha Yoga is a practice of the body and mind; an attempt to bring about physical and mental harmony through breath and postures. Regular practice would lead to wonderful benefits for children both in their studies and their personal relationships due to their calmer demeanor; the academic research confirming this is literally overwhelming.

As someone who endorses Yoga for children, I believe that this program needs to continue to support their growth in a healthy and positive way. Programs like these provide children with the tools necessary to succeed in life. Something as exciting and powerful as Yoga should not be passed up because of this group of parents. We need this program for their future....and ours.

I sincerely hope you will continue to run this program.
